I have been
collecting found objects for many years, acquiring them at flea markets and
antique fairs throughout the country and internationally. Some of the items were given to me by
friends and acquaintances, so they each hold special meaning to me. What I am most attracted to are their
patinas, ages, shapes, and colors. With my professional
history of selling antique architectural salvage for so many years, the previous
lives of all the found objects incorporated into my assemblages hold primary
importance to me. I do not start with a
preconceived idea. Rather, I choose an
object to work with and all the aspects, including composition, relatability
and even the artwork’s title, fall into place. The surreal nature and character
of each piece then emerges cohesively to the viewer.
